Actiontec GT784WNV: Troubleshooting
You can use the Power, DSL and Ethernet lights on the front panel of Actiontec GT784WNV to help diagnose home networking connectivity problems.

Has your Service Ready Date passed?
High Speed Internet Service is not available until Verizon Online activates your line.
Is the Power light illuminated?- Light is solid green: The power is on.
- Light is off: The gateway isn’t getting power. Confirm that the power switch on the back panel of the router is in the 'on' position. If the Power light is still not green, verify the connection between the power cord and the back of the Actiontec GT784WNV gateway. Ensure that the other end of the power cord is securely connected to the electrical outlet.
Is the DSL light illuminated?
- Light is solid green: The connection between the router and Verizon Online is established.
- Light is flashing green: A signal is found and attempting to fully connect with Verizon Online.
Is the Internet light illuminated?
- Light is solid green: The connection between the router and Verizon Online is established.
- Light is off: There is no power or connection between your router and Verizon Online.
- Light is flashing green: A connection to Verizon is being established.
- Solid red: A connection to Verizon cannot be established. If you have already checked your DSL connection, contact Verizon.
If the Actiontec GT784WNV is connected to your computer using an Ethernet cable, are any Ethernet lights illuminated (E1, E2, E3, or E4)?
- Light for the port where a cable is connected is green: The Ethernet connection between the router and your computer is established.
- Light for the port where a cable is connected is off: No link is established between the Gateway and your computer
- Light for the port where a cable is connected is flashing green: A connection to Verizon is being established
If the Actiontec GT784WNV is connected to your computer using a Wireless connection, is the Wireless light illuminated?
- Light is solid green: Wireless connection is established between your router and Verizon Online.
- Light is flashing green: A connection to Verizon is being established.
- Light is off: No link is established between the D-link gateway and your computer.
Reboot your computer by turning it off, waiting for 45 seconds, and then turning it back on. Re-check your router lights. Disconnect all networked computers and restart the computer connected to the router. Reconnect the other computers one-by-one to isolate the problem.
Actiontec GT784WNV: Resetting to Factory Defaults
When you reset your Actiontec GT784WNV settings, remember:
- Your default SSID and network encryption key is also restored.
- If you have a home network, you must re-configure your Actiontec GT784WNV to match the previous settings that were assigned to all the other devices on your wireless network. Otherwise, no other network devices will be recognized.

To reset your Actiontec GT784WNV to factory default settings:- Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field.
- Enter your user name and password and click Continue. Your default user name is admin if you didn't change it when you configured your network.
- From the top navigation, select Utilities.
- From the Modem Utilities navigation, select Restore Defaults. From this screen you can restore the Gateway’s wireless settings, firewall settings or all settings to their factory default state.
- Press the appropriate button to restore your settings. During this process, the Gateway’s Power Light flashes and the Gateway is disabled until after rebooting. Your Actiontec GT784WNV is now using the default settings for the network configuration.
If you cannot access the gateway’s internal interface, perform the following steps:
- Using a paperclip, press in and hold the Reset button for 30 seconds.
- After 30 seconds, release the Reset button and turn the power off to the D-Link 2750-B.
- Leave the power off for 20 seconds.
- Turn your gateway back on.
- Reboot your computer.
Actiontec GT784WNV: Enable Port Forwarding
Port forwarding configures a device (modem, router, or gateway) to allow a computer, application, or a service on the Internet to communicate with a specific computer on a private local area network (LAN).
Port forwarding sorts the data from the Internet source to the correct port on your network. Port forwarding is commonly used for online gaming, VPN setup, FTP setup, remote computer software, and Web server hosting.
Before you begin: Make sure you have the port information from the manufacturer or service that requires port forwarding. This normally includes the protocol, port start, port end, and port map.Actiontec GT784WNV

To set up port-forwarding for the Actiontec GT784WNV:- Open a Web browser like Internet Explorer.
- Enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field of the browser.
- Enter your current user name and password and click OK. If you didn't change the user name and password during installation, enter admin in the User Name field and password in the Password field. Note: If you can't remember your user name or password, you will need to reset your Actiontec GT784WNV to the default settings and reconfigure your home network.
- Select Advanced Setup from the top navigation.
- From the left navigation, select Port Forwarding.
- Under 1. Set the LAN port and IP Information:
- Enter the starting port for the local computer
- Enter the ending port for the local computer
- Select the protocol (TCP or UDP)
- Enter the IP address of the local computer
- Enter the starting port for the local computer
- Under 2. Set the remote port and IP information (optional):
- Enter the starting port coming from the web
- Enter the ending port coming from the web
- If you want all access from the web to route to this port enter 0.0.0.0 in the Remote IP Address field
- Enter the starting port coming from the web
- Click Apply to save the new settings. A confirmation page displays your new port-forwarding rule.
- Open a Web browser like Internet Explorer.
Actiontec GT784WNV: Changing your password
Before you change your password, note:
If you didn't change the default password when you set up your router, it may have been changed to your router's serial number to provide greater security. You can find your router's serial number on a label affixed to the bottom or back of your router.

To change your Actiontec GT784WNV password:- Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field
- Enter your user name and password and click Continue. Your default user name is admin if you didn't change it when you configured your network.
- Click the Advanced Setup tab.
- From the left navigation Security heading, select Admin Password.
- Enter a new password in the Admin Password field.
- Enter your new password again in the Retype Admin New Password field to confirm that you entered it correctly
- Click Apply to save your changes and apply the new settings to your modem.
- Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field

Your network's current SSID is stored in your Actiontec GT784WNV. As long as you know your router's user name and password, you can access the security settings where the SSID is stored.

To find your network’s SSID:- Make sure your Actiontec GT784WNV is connected to the Internet with an Ethernet cable.
- Open a Web browser like Internet Explorer and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field of the browser.
- Enter your current user name and password and click OK. If you didn't change the user name and password during installation, enter admin in the User Name field and password in the Password field. Note: If you can't remember your user name or password, you will need to reset your Actiontec to the default settings and reconfigure your home network.
- From the top navigation, click the Wireless Setup tab. The Basic Settings page opens.
The SSID appears in the Network Name field. Write down the SSID and put it in a secure place for future reference. You will need this information any time you make a change to your home network or add devices to it.
- Use In-Home Agent to find your network’s SSID You can access In-Home Agent on a computer that is already connected to Verizon Online. Within In-Home Agent, select Internet, Networking & Wireless Setup and then Retrieve SSID and WEP/WPA key.

Your network's current WEP encryption key is stored in your Actiontec GT784WNV.

- From the top navigation, click the Wireless Settings tab. The Basic Settings page opens.
- From the left navigation, click Wireless Security. The Wireless Security settings open.
- Under Select Security Type, select WEP from the drop-down.
- Enter your WEP security key:
- To use the default WEP key: Select the Use Default Security Key/Passphrase field radio button.
- To use a custom WEP key: Select the Use Custom Key / Passphrase radio button and enter your custom WEP key.
- To use the default WEP key: Select the Use Default Security Key/Passphrase field radio button.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
- Use In-Home Agent to find your network’s SSID You can access In-Home Agent on a computer that is already connected to Verizon Online. Within In-Home Agent, select Internet,Networking & Wireless Setup and then Retrieve SSID and WEP/WPA key.

Your network's current WPA2 or WPA encryption key is stored in your Actiontec GT784WNV. As long as you know your gateway's user name and password, you can access the security settings where the WPA2 or WPA encryption key is stored.

- From the left navigation, click Wireless Security.
- Under Select Security Type, select WPA-WPA2-Personal from the drop-down.
- Under Security Encryption Type, select Both from the drop-down.
- Enter your security key/passphrase:
- To use the default key: Select the Use Default Security Key/Passphrase field radio button.
- To use a custom key: Select the Use Custom Key / Passphrase radio button and enter your custom security key.
- To use the default key: Select the Use Default Security Key/Passphrase field radio button.
- Click Apply to save your changes.
- Use In-Home Agent to find your network’s SSID You can access In-Home Agent on a computer that is already connected to Verizon Online. Within In-Home Agent, select Internet, Networking & Wireless Setup and then Retrieve SSID and WEP/WPA key.
Actiontec Troubleshooting: The DSL light is off
- Verify that your phone line connection to the DSL port of the router is secure.
- Check the connection where your phone line connects to your wall outlet.
- If the light is still off, verify that a DSL filter is installed between all telephone equipment and the telephone line. The Line side of the DSL filter should be connected to the telephone line, while the Phone side of the DSL filter should be connected to the telephone equipment.
Note: DSL filters are not required if you have Verizon 7M High Speed Internet service. - If the light is still off, verify that the DSL router connects to the telephone line without a DSL filter.
- If the DSL light is now illuminated but you can't connect to the Internet, continue with Troubleshooting Step 4.
- If the DSL light remains off, contact Verizon Technical Support.
